Standing beside the Huanhe River (today's Anyang River), the Yinxu Museum in Anyang, Henan province, brings visitors the legacy of the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC), whose last capital flourished here more than 3,000 years ago. Its striking architecture draws inspiration from the bronze ding, one of ancient China's most iconic ritual vessels. Home to nearly 4,000 artifacts — including inscribed oracle bones, magnificent bronzes, and other national treasures — the museum offers an important window into the origins of Chinese writing and the civilization of China's early dynasties.
