"The title 'Black Box' refers both to the core secrets and dark confines of human experimentation within Unit 731 and metaphorically to operations in which the United States, in pursuit of germ warfare data, struck secret deals with Japanese war criminals to cover up the truth after the war," Jin said. "The book also focuses on postwar lawsuits and chemical weapons victims. It documents the complex journey of scholars from China and abroad in their pursuit of truth and peace."
