Set on Qinglian Island in the tranquil waters of Chengde's Mountain Resort, Yanyu Tower (Misty Rain Tower) is a two-story waterside pavilion built during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) under Emperor Qianlong (r. 1735-96). Inspired by the famous Yanyu Tower in Zhejiang's Jiaxing, it blends northern imperial garden design with the delicate elegance of scenery in Jiangnan (the area south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River).

With its red pillars, hanging lanterns, and gracefully curved eaves, the tower stands lightly over the lake, its reflection shifting with the water. From the balcony, visitors can take in misty lake views that change with the weather, creating a poetic atmosphere rarely seen in northern China.
