New train station in Foshan unlocks regional commutes
With the departure of the inaugural C7122 train, the newly built Foshan Station of the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway opened on Wednesday, helping promote deep integration between Guangzhou and Foshan in Guangdong province.
Located in the central urban area of Foshan, the station enables the fastest direct connection between the centers of the two cities — just 18 minutes.
The station serves as the core hub of Foshan's railway passenger transport network, with a total construction area of 294,000 square meters, four platforms and nine sets of tracks.
It is designed to handle a crowd of up to 2,500 people at a time. In the initial phase, the station is expected to serve approximately 4.6 million passengers annually, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group.
For passengers connected with the western part of Guangdong, the opening of the new station significantly reduces the time and distance to cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, allowing a more efficient travel option along the routes heading north or east.
