Shenyang man detained for allegedly defaming 'Father of hybrid rice'

A 40-year-old man in Shenyang city, Liaoning province, has been criminally detained for allegedly defaming Yuan Longping, the renowned Chinese agronomist known as the "father of hybrid rice", local public security bureau said on Monday.
The suspect, identified as Yang, allegedly posted misleading content online that deliberately misrepresented Yuan's rice breeding research in an effort to attract traffic, the report said.
Police said Yang's actions damaged Yuan's reputation and caused a negative social impact.
The case remains under further investigation.
