On Thursday, Nagchu in the Xizang autonomous region hosted the 2026 Xizang Gorshey Dance Exhibition, featuring a record-setting performance.

A total of 1,105 dancers in festive Tibetan attire joined hands in a giant circle to perform the traditional Gorshey, or Tibetan circle dance. Adding a modern touch, humanoid robots danced alongside the participants.

After more than seven minutes of synchronized dancing, World Record Certification Agency verified the performance as the world's "Highest Altitude Thousand-Person Nagchu Gorshey Dance".

The achievement came just two months after Nagchu Gorshey was recognized as a representative regional-level intangible cultural heritage project in April.

Known for its vigorous yet graceful movements, Nagchu Gorshey is one of the region's most distinctive traditional folk dances. In recent years, local authorities have promoted its preservation and innovation through public performances, cultural events, and tourism, helping bring the centuries-old tradition to wider audiences.
