The China Cultural Center in Rabat hosted "Paddling Forward Together: A Vibrant Dragon Boat Festival" ahead of this year's Dragon Boat Festival on June 17, local time. Nearly 100 locals, overseas Chinese, and followers of the cultural center attended the event, which aimed to deepen Moroccan understanding of Chinese traditions through festive experiences.

The program featured a culture mini-class on the festival's origins, the story of Qu Yuan, and customs like dragon boat racing and hanging mugwort. Participants also tasted zongzi — sticky rice dumplings with savory and sweet fillings — experiencing the festival's unique flavors.

A handmade perfume pouch workshop was a highlight of the event. Attendees crafted sachets filled with mugwort and cloves — symbolizing good fortune — and took them home as souvenirs of cross-cultural exchange.

Fatima, a student from Mohammed V University, praised the event for its clear introduction to the festival, dragon boats, and stories about Qu Yuan, as well as its hands-on activities. Akkat, a Confucius Institute student also at Mohammed V University, said he loved the zongzi and would return for future activities.

As one of China's most significant traditional festivals, Dragon Boat Festival carries profound historical memory and cultural sentiment, reflecting the Chinese people's aspirations for patriotism, family, and a better life. "Paddling Forward Together: A Vibrant Dragon Boat Festival" is more than just a theme — it conveys a deeper message. Just as a boat moves forward when all row in unison, cultural exchange also thrives through joint efforts, mutual understanding, and shared joy. Amid the fragrant aroma of bamboo leaves, the warmth of culture is quietly bridging hearts, drawing the people of China and Morocco closer together with festive spirit.
