As white as snow, as thin as paper, and its sound as deep and resonant as a chime — phrases often used to describe the fine, creamy texture of blanc de Chine. The production of these distinguished white ceramics from Dehua county, Fujian province, dates back as early as the 10th century, for domestic use and also for export across the world.
Selected pieces of the time-honored white porcelain are now on show in Serbia's capital, Belgrade, also known as the "White City". More than 50 decorative ceramics depicting animals, such as galloping horses and celestial figures, are on display in the Cultural Center of Belgrade until March 1.
The exhibition is part of a global tour to celebrate the workmanship and artistry of blanc de Chine, as well as its role in maritime trade centuries ago. A promotional event for culture and tourism was held after the exhibition opened.
