WELLINGTON -- New Zealand will not join the Board of Peace proposed by US President Donald Trump, New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said in a statement Friday.

Luxon said the government had considered the offer and decided it would not accept the invitation to join the board in its "current form."

Foreign Minister Winston Peters said on X that New Zealand, as a leading founder and longstanding supporter of the United Nations, thinks it is important that the Board's work is complementary to and consistent with the UN Charter.

Trump formally launched the Board of Peace on Jan 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
