State Council's Work Safety Commission to supervise investigation into Yunnan train incident

The Office of Work Safety Commission under the State Council has launched a high-level inquiry into a train accident that killed 11 people and injured two others in Kunming, Yunnan province, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management on Friday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Luoyang town railway station, where a test train travelling through a curved section of track struck a group of construction workers who had entered the active line. The train, numbered 55537, had been carrying out seismic monitoring tests at the time.

Upon receiving the report, the ministry requested verification of the number of casualties and began to carry out search and rescue operations, treat the injured, and provide post-disaster support. Meanwhile, the ministry urged a swift investigation into the cause of the incident and the implementation of preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences.

A joint working group formed by the Work Safety Commission, the National Railway Administration, and China State Railway Group has been dispatched to the site to supervise the emergency response and oversee the investigation.
