Shades of ink

Ink master Huang Binhong (1865-1955) developed a distinctive painting style which he described as "hunhou (robust strength) huazi (luxuriant vitality)". By layering shades of ink, he infused his landscapes with spiritual depth and an ethereal atmosphere, expanding the aesthetic possibilities of Chinese ink art in the modern era. The Third Huang Binhong Academic Nomination Exhibition, now underway at the National Art Museum of China, teams up with prominent figures in classical Chinese painting whose enduring works carry forward Huang's artistic spirit. Organized by the Chinese National Academy of Arts, the exhibition was previously held in 2003 and 2019. The current edition runs through to Thursday.

9 am-5 pm, closed on Mondays. 1 Wusi Dajie, Dongcheng district, Beijing. 010-6400-1476.
