Art for peace
Feng Zikai (1898-1975) pioneered the movement of the modern Chinese comic style, manhua, creating a body of touching works that have nurtured generations. Blending the grace of classical Chinese painting with the minimalist sketch style of modernism, he depicted everyday life with humor, tenderness, and quiet philosophy. His works are lighthearted and convey poetic sensibility and philosophical reflections. Love and Peace, an exhibition now on at the Hengqin Cultural and Art Center, Guangdong province, displays about 200 Feng's comic works in four sections. A teacher, writer and translator, as well as an artist, Feng infused his creations with humanistic warmth. Children and small animals, recurring figures in his art, embody the sincerity, benevolence, and innocence he cherished. The exhibition runs until Nov 21.
10 am-6 pm, closed on Mondays. 698 Haojiang Lu, Hengqin, Zhuhai, Guangdong province.
