Veterans share hard-won battles in documentary series

Zhang also revealed that the production was a race against time, as the veterans they interviewed were over 100 years old, with the oldest aged 110 and the youngest being 102.

Sa Su, a military expert, commented that the documentary — despite the average age of the crew being 30 — shows in-depth insight into the history and captures some lesser-known stories, such as the initial burial site of Zhang Zizhong, a commander who sacrificed his life in a battle in Hubei province in 1940.

Currently, the documentary has garnered 1.06 billion views on social platform Sina Weibo, while its related short videos have generated an additional 580 million online views.
