BEIJING -- A Chinese mainland spokeswoman on Sunday said that the results of the second round of a recall vote targeting legislators of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party in Taiwan showed that "Taiwan independence" separatism runs against the will of the people and is doomed to fail.

The second round of the recall vote against the seven legislators failed on Saturday, with none of the recall proposals being passed, marking another sweeping victory for the KMT against the recall campaign.

After two rounds of voting in vain, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) still remains a minority party at the island's legislature, holding 51 seats out of 113.

"Following the first round of voting on July 26, the people of Taiwan have once again said 'no' to the DPP's malicious political farce," said Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference.

Zhu said that this clearly demonstrates that any form of "Taiwan independence" separatism and political manipulation runs against the will of the people and is doomed to fail.
