Seven of 14 people trapped due to mountain collapse confirmed dead in Guangzhou
Seven of 14 people trapped due to a mountain collapse in a village of Baiyun district of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, were confirmed dead, local emergency management authorities said on Friday.
After over 48 hours of search and rescue, the last person trapped was rescued from the mountain collapse site in Dayuan village, in the northern part of Guangzhou, around Friday noon.
Seven of the trapped were injured and taken to the hospital. Three of them have already been discharged, while the others are not in life-threatening condition.
After days of heavy rainfall, the collapse occurred at about 8:30 am on Wednesday, damaging houses nearby.
As the search and rescue operations at the site have concluded, post-disaster recovery efforts will be carried out, the authorities said.
The following work includes cleanup, risk assessment, and mitigation of geological hazards in the area and its surroundings, safety inspections, and evaluations of buildings, authorities said.
