Gongbei Port in Guangdong sees summer travel surge

With the arrival of summer vacation, outbound tourism has entered its peak season, leading to a surge in passenger flow at the Gongbei Port in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, according to local Customs authorities.
Since July, the daily average number of inbound and outbound travelers through the port, which is connected to Macao by land, has exceeded 330,000, the Customs said.
The port has become the preferred gateway for travelers embarking on outbound trips to Macao, which will launch a series of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the historic center of Macao being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Several large-scale concerts will be held in Macao to attract visitors from the mainland in the summer vocation.
As of Tuesday, the number of inbound and outbound travelers passing through Gongbei Port has surpassed 62.9 million for the year, according to the Customs statistics.
During the summer season, there is a high volume of cross-border travelers, with prolonged peak hours, according to Xu Shoulian, deputy director of Zhakou Customs, a subordinate customs office of the Gongbei Customs.
"We will enhance coordination with Customs authorities, border inspection, and other departments in Macao to facilitate smooth clearance for travelers," said Xu.
