Early Sunday morning, Zhonghe village in western Guangdong province was struck by a landslide following a day of heavy rains from Typhoon Wutip. Thanks to timely evacuations, no casualties were reported among the village's 45 households and 57 residents. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

In the hours before the landslide, Liu and her colleagues navigated flooded roads with flashlights, going door-to-door to wake residents and coordinate the evacuation, authorities reported.

Born in 1979, Liu was elected as a village cadre in July 2018 and became a member of the Communist Party of China in December 2020. Having engaged in disaster prevention and reduction work for years, Liu has now become experienced in this field.
