At the Xiatang site, remains of a primitive village more than 9,000 years old have been discovered. Residents of this ancient settlement cultivated rice, built houses and fired pottery over a span exceeding 5,000 years, encompassing the entire Neolithic period. [Photo provided to China Daily]
