Northern China sees heatwave while South sees rainfall

Northern China is expected to experience high temperatures, while the southern regions will be hit by strong rainfall, meteorological authorities said on Thursday.
From Friday to Thursday, high temperatures will affect areas in North China, with the highest temperatures in cities like Xi'an in Shaanxi province, Zhengzhou in Henan province and Lanzhou in Gansu province exceeding 40 C, according to Weather China.
The upcoming high-temperature process, marked its long duration, intense strength and broad coverage, is the combined influence of atmospheric circulation and topographic conditions, said Chen Tao, a senior forecaster at the National Meteorological Center.
Given that May is a crucial stage for winter wheat filling and the heat-affected region aligns with the wheat cultivation area, the center has issued a caution regarding the potential threat of dry hot wind disasters.
As a result of cyclonic activity in the north, areas in North China, Northeast China and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region are expected to experience rainfall and strong convective weather such as short-term intense rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and hail, the center said.
The Beijing meteorological observatory said some areas of the city will have thunderstorms with short-lived strong winds and hail from late afternoon to early midnight on Friday. In addition, several rounds of rainfall are expected to hit across South China. The NMC cautioned about secondary disasters triggered by continuous rainfall or localized strong rainfall.
