China supports the international community in using various platforms, including the United Nations Security Council, to discuss and deepen understandings on the harm of unilateralism and bullying practices, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Thursday.

Lin made the remarks as China is reportedly scheduled to convene an informal UNSC meeting next week to criticize the United States for bullying and casting a shadow over the global efforts for peace and development by weaponizing tariffs.

Recently, the US has ignored the outcomes regarding the balance of interests through multilateral trade negotiations and has abused tariffs under the pretext of "reciprocity and fairness," he noted at a daily news conference.

Such moves seriously impact the global economic order and multilateral trading system, undermine the interests of various countries, and pose unprecedented difficulties and challenges to the UN and the multilateral course, Lin said.

China supports discussions by the international community to reiterate its commitment to multilateralism and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and to build up consensus on strengthening the role of the UN and safeguarding the legitimate rights to development of all countries, he added.

According to Lin, on Monday and Tuesday, representatives from China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran and other relevant countries attended the third meeting of the national coordinators held by the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter in Moscow.

The meeting sent out a clear message of supporting multilateralism and opposing unilateral, coercive measures and economic bullying, Lin said at Thursday's news briefing.

It also shows the firm resolve of countries, in particular, the Global South, to stand together against external pressure, he added.

He urged the US to hear the call for justice from the international community and refrain from moving further down the wrong path of unilateralism and bullying.
