Xizang welcomes foreign tourists: official
The government of the Xizang autonomous region will provide more convenient conditions for foreigners to come to the region based on changes in Xizang's reception conditions and infrastructure, the vice-chairman of the region said.
"Xizang is open to the outside world, and foreign tourists are always welcomed to visit," Xu Zhitao, vice-chairman of the region, said at a news conference held in the regional capital of Lhasa to release a white paper titled "Human Rights in Xizang in the New Era" on Friday.
"But at the same time, due to the region's unique natural environment, geographical conditions, and reception capacity, the region has taken certain management and security measures in receiving foreigners," Xu said.
"The Xizang government has been attaching great importance to further opening to the world, and it aims to attract more foreigners to Xizang for tourism and investment," Xu said.
He said that over the years, the number of foreigners visiting Xizang has been increasing, and the region received 320,000 visits from foreign tourists in 2024.
"Furthermore, Xizang plans to develop more tourist routes that are suitable for foreigners. It's also developing high-end tourist trains for inbound travel to Xizang," he said.
"I believe these efforts will further attract foreign tourists, and we hope to see more and more foreign tourists visiting Xizang," he added.
