As temperatures rise in Southwest China's Chongqing, the Chongqing SkyShuttle — the world's first driverless monorail system — has been graced with enchanting spring scenery.

In recent years, the city's Bishan district has planted a charming assortment of over 30 plant varieties, including apricots, magnolias and poppies, which are starting to bloom alongside the leisurely transport system.

The municipality put the SkyShuttle into operation in its Bishan district in April 2021.

Developed by one of China's leading new energy vehicle manufacturers, BYD, with an investment exceeding 1.8 billion yuan ($248.5 million) over seven years, this electric-powered, autonomous rail transit system runs along a 15.4-kilometer elevated rail line with 15 stations.

This innovative system aims to tackle critical urban issues such as cost-effectiveness, air pollution and traffic congestion.
