Senior legislator under probe for serious violations

Jiang Chaoliang, a senior legislator, is under investigation for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs announced on Friday.

The Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision released the information online, though further details have not been disclosed.

Before the investigation, Jiang served as a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, and as deputy head of the 14th NPC's Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee and Social Development Affairs Committee.

Public information shows that Jiang, 67, a native of Hunan province, began his career in December 1974 and joined the CPC in May 1981. He spent decades in the country's banking sector before becoming vice-governor of Hubei province in 2002.

In 2014, he transitioned to Jilin province as provincial governor, and two years later, he became the Party secretary of Hubei. Jiang began his work at the top legislature in 2021.
