A mechanic was killed on Sunday while inspecting a halted bullet train along the high-speed rail link between Nanjing South Station and Zijinshan East Station in Jiangsu province, officials said on Tuesday.
The mechanic had stepped off train D5515 to examine a malfunction caused by a wild boar that had wandered onto the tracks and collided with the train. While conducting his inspection, he was struck by a passing train on an adjacent track.
The man was provided with immediate medical assistance but did not survive his injuries.
Railway authorities expressed their condolences and sympathy to the mechanic’s family following the incident, which caused delays for several trains passing through Nanjing South Station.
