On the evening of Sept 27, the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing hosted an enchanting performance by the Peking Trio, a renowned ensemble consisting of violist Su Zhen, clarinetist Wang Tao, and pianist Zhang Fang.

The trio, celebrated for its unique blend of classical instruments, delivered a concert rich in lyrical beauty and emotional depth, weaving a tapestry of sound that captivated the audience, and performed live music by 10 outstanding contemporary Chinese composers.

The viola's soft warmth, the clarinet's rounded richness, and the piano's expansive resonance each contributed distinct timbral qualities, harmoniously complementing each other to craft exquisitely romantic melodies and vibrant, colorful movements. Known as the only professional trio of its kind within the Chinese classical music scene, the Peking Trio has been a favorite since its debut in 2019, touring nationwide and recently being featured artists for the 2024 inaugural release of the National Center for the Performing Arts Live series.

With collaborations spanning over 50 symphony orchestras worldwide and more than 20 albums to their credit, the trio has not only dazzled audiences on tour but has also participated in numerous masterclasses and charitable activities. Their profound musical expertise and broad knowledge provide a unique listening experience that resonates across cultural boundaries.

As members of the Chamber Music Society under the Chinese Musicians' Association, the artists are dedicated to nurturing new talent and promoting the essence of Chinese cultural artistry through their intensive work in chamber music. Each summer, they engage closely with students at prominent music festivals both in China and abroad.

Reflecting on the performance, clarinetist Wang Tao noted, "Art has a universal resonance. It can touch anyone, regardless of nationality, through the power of music."

Each performance by the Peking Trio is a testament to their deep understanding of chamber music, full emotional engagement, and continuous exploration, offering the audience an auditory feast of unparalleled craftsmanship.
