One officer killed, two injured in Changchun altercation

A police officer from the Chaoyang district branch of the Changchun Public Security Bureau in Changchun, Jilin province, lost his life while intervening in a disturbance on Monday, as per a statement released by the branch on Tuesday.
Another two police officers were injured but are not in life-threatening condition, and there were no casualties among the residents present at the scene, the statement said.
At 1:20 pm on Monday, the Hongqi Street Police Station received a report from the command center of the city's public security bureau, saying that a man was threatening a crowd with a knife.
The police engaged the suspect, surnamed Li, 45, while ensuring safe evacuation of residents from the area.
In the ensuing struggle, one officer suffered severe injuries from Li's knife, leading to the loss of his firearm to the suspect. Another officer was also harmed during the altercation.
Upon the arrival of additional law enforcement personnel, Li resisted arrest and resorted to firing his weapon, injuring another police officer.
The officers returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect.
The case is under further investigation.
