Pavilion collapses in lightning storm; 6 dead, 10 hurt

Six people died and 10 others were injured when a pavilion at a park in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, collapsed after being struck by lightning on Sunday night, local authorities said.
The strike happened at 8:36 pm on Sunday as wind gusts and heavy rainfall swept through a township in the Changzhou Economic Development Zone. People had gone to the pavilion as they sought shelter from the rain. Then the lightning struck, according to a notice issued by the local government on Monday.
Search and rescue efforts ended at 11 pm on Sunday. Six people were severely injured and died after emergency efforts failed at the hospital. The other 10 injured people are in stable condition, the notice said.
