A student was found dead, after accidentally falling into water near a street in Xiangshan district of Guilin, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, following days of heavy rainfall, the local government said on Sunday.

Local authorities have activated its emergency control response plan and announced the suspension of classes for primary and secondary schools since Thursday, after river levels surged significantly due to continuous heavy rainfall.

Upon receiving a report of the student falling into the water, the local government mobilized the public security, emergency response, fire department, health and other relevant departments, as well as social rescue forces, to conduct a full-scale search and rescue operation.

Around 2:00 pm on Saturday, the student who fell into the water was found near the Nanwan River in Pingshan New Village in Xiangshan, showing no signs of life, according to the local government.
