Henan reports 81 percent summer sowing coverage amid heat wave
Summer sowing in Henan province has reached 72.92 million mu (4.86 million hectares), covering 81 percent of the area, according to data released by the Henan Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Monday.
The data showed that approximately 3.8 million hectares were grain crops, accounting for 84 percent, including 3.24 million hectares for corn, 0.31 million hectares for rice, and 0.14 million hectares for soybeans.
High temperatures are expected to peak at nearly 39 C from Monday to Friday. This heat wave could also impact summer sowing.
Guo Tiancai, a professor from Henan Agricultural University, has cautioned about the adverse effects of high temperatures and limited rainfall on summer sowing. He recommends that local farmers implement scientific water-saving measures for irrigation.
