3 dead in Shandong coal mine flood
Three people were pronounced dead and five were rescued after a coal mine flood in Tai'an, Shandong province, according to Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at the Huafeng Coal Mine of Shandong Energy Group at 7:07 pm on Saturday. Eight workers were trapped during a routine water drainage process when the water level increased suddenly.
On Monday, rescue teams discovered the body of a worker who had been caught in the flood. They found four other workers at around 5 pm on Tuesday and another three between 7 pm and 8:40 pm.
Medical workers provided treatment underground, as rescuers helped lift workers out.
All those recovered were taken to hospitals. Five workers were reported to be in stable condition, while two more were pronounced dead.
