Former senior legislator sentenced for bribery

HARBIN -- A Chinese court on Monday sentenced Fu Zhongwei, former head of the standing committee of the municipal people's congress of Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province, to 15 years in prison for accepting bribes.
The court ruled that between 2003 and 2022, Fu took advantage of his various positions in the province to help others in matters concerning business operations, case handling and job transfers, and in return illegally accepted money and gifts worth more than 64.7 million yuan (about $9.1 million).
Fu was also fined 5 million yuan, and his illegal gains were confiscated and turned over to the state treasury, according to the verdict.
