Xinjiang's top political advisor under investigation

Dou Wangui, a top political advisor of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, has been placed under disciplinary and supervisory investigation, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
Dou, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region committee, is being investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Commission of Supervision, China's top anti-graft watchdogs, for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and the law, the statement from CCDI and NCS said.
According to the committee's official website, Dou's last public appearance was on February 19.
Dou, 61, a native of Jiangsu province, began working in 1982 and joined the Party in 1986. He has spent his whole career in Xinjiang. He once worked in Aksu prefecture for nearly 10 years and became the Party chief of Aksu prefecture in September 2013. In January 2018, he was appointed the vice-chairman of CPPCC Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region committee.
