Shenzhen delivery rider rewarded for reporting illegal laughing gas use

A delivery rider in Shenzhen in southern China's Guangdong province, was commended and rewarded for reporting a suspicious package containing illegal laughing gas, authorities said Sunday.
The rider, who wished to remain anonymous, received an unusual delivery order on Feb 21 to pick up items from a hotel and dispose of them at a remote location without cameras. Recognizing the items as resembling laughing gas canisters from his training, he contacted the police.
Officers responded to the scene and confirmed the presence of two tourists illegally using the hazardous substance.
The Shenzhen Public Security Bureau and the rider's delivery platform applauded his actions. He received a 2,000 yuan ($280) reward from the authorities and was named "Pioneer Rider" by his company.
Laughing gas, also known as nitrous oxide, is a legal substance with various legitimate uses but can be abused for recreational purposes. While not classified as a narcotic, it is listed as a hazardous chemical in China, requiring a permit for non-pharmaceutical sales.
The Shenzhen Narcotics Control Commission encouraged citizens to report suspected drug-related activities and highlighted potential rewards for information leading to arrests.
