Myanmar police hands over 497 fraud suspects to China

The Ministry of Public Security announced on Friday that the Myanmar police recently handed over 497 telecom fraud suspects, including 46 fugitives, to China.

The ministry said it has continued to strengthen international law enforcement cooperation with the law enforcement agencies in Myanmar this year, and dispatched a working group to cooperate with local police in conducting joint operations, successfully arresting 497 telecom fraud suspects in the Tachileik area of Myanmar.

Since 2023, the ministry has deployed public security organs in Southwest China's Yunnan province to deepen border law enforcement cooperation with relevant law enforcement agencies in Myanmar. They continuously provided information on fraud dens and fraudsters. With the support from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, fruitful results were achieved.

As of now, 46,000 telecom fraud suspects have been handed over to China, and a large number of fraud dens have been successfully eradicated, it said.

During the Spring Festival this year, the ministry send a working group to cooperate with the Myanmar police and supported local police to successfully arrest the 497 suspects. on Feb 21, they were all transferred to Chinese police. Currently, the ministry has deployed public security organs in the provinces of Hubei, Sichuan, and other places to escort the suspects back from Yunnan and fully investigate relevant cases.

An officer from the ministry stated that the Ministry of Public Security will continue to deepen law enforcement cooperation with relevant countries and regions and carry out joint crackdown operations to resolutely curb the high incidence of cross-border telecom fraud.

The public security organs warn telecom fraud criminals, especially those hiding overseas, to stop their criminal activities immediately, return to China to surrender and strive for lenient treatment.
