Former chairman of China National Petroleum Corp under investigation

Wang Yilin, former Party secretary and chairman of China National Petroleum Corp, the country's largest oil and gas producer in terms of output, is under disciplinary and supervisory investigation on suspicion of seriously violating Party disciplines and national laws.

The probe was disclosed by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission, the country's top anti-corruption watchdogs, through the internet on Friday.

The latest information showed that CNPC saw its overseas assets exceed 1 trillion yuan ($139.5 billion) last year and overseas revenue stand at 1.5 trillion yuan. The company has played a pivotal role in securing national energy resources, with cumulative overseas imports of more than 1.3 billion metric tons of crude oil and over 700 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
