Since 1985, Ge has been teaching and conducting research at the university, where he got promoted to professor and doctoral supervisor. In 1990, he expanded his research and established China's first laboratory of special ceramics and powder metallurgy, spearheading the country's development in this field.
In 2001, Ge was selected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2020, he was awarded a Nuclear Industry Service Medal and the honorary title of Nuclear Industry Meritorious Personnel by China National Nuclear Corporation.
