Prestigious universities compete at rowing event in Guangdong

An international rowing invitation was held on Sunday in Hengqin of Zhuhai, Guangdong province, attracting dozens of young teams from Chinese and foreign universities to compete.
The invitation, one of the highly influential rowing events among universities in China, was first launched in 2019, according to the event's organizers.
Twenty teams from 14 higher education institutes, including Yale University from the United States, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, the University of Macao and other prestigious universities from the Chinese mainland competed for the event.
Four youth rowing teams from Hong Kong and Hengqin, in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, joined the event for a youth group competition.

Additionally, a sculpture to commemorate Chung Mun Yew, the first Chinese rower to attend Yale University, was officially unveiled on Sunday inside a rowing park in Hengqin.
Chung led the Yale University rowing team twice to defeat the Harvard University rowing team over a hundred years ago, helping write the name of a Chinese person into the history of rowing.
