Jiang Erxiong, president of the Fujian Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, was appointed as vice-governor of Fujian province on Thursday at a session of the provincial legislative body.
Jiang, 56, was born in Fujian, but her father originally came from Changhua, Taiwan.
In 1987, she graduated from the School of Economics at Xiamen University in Fujian, and then served for a long time in China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation Fujian Company, eventually becoming the general manager in 2006.
She joined the Communist Party of China in 1996 and is also a member of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, one of the eight non-communist parties that participate in state affairs under the leadership of the CPC.
In 2012, Jiang became president of the Fujian Federation of Taiwan Compatriots. In January, she was appointed deputy head of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People's Congress.
Jiang's devotion to cross-Strait exchanges has a lot to do with her family background. She is the second generation of a Taiwan family that settled on the mainland. Her father came to the mainland from Taiwan in the late 1940s and started a family.
In 2009, Jiang visited Changhua for the first time to pay respects to her ancestors, and discovered that her grandmother's gravestone faced towards the mainland, with the inscription of her grandfather's hometown, a place in Fujian.
