HANOI - Prolonged heavy rain and floods in central Vietnam since early this week killed two people and left three others missing, according to the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Thursday.

Several places in Hue city received more than 800 mm of rainfalls in 24 hours, and the entire city was flooded by Wednesday night, the local media VnExpress reported.

Heavy rains were forecast to continue in the central region, especially Thua Thien Hue province until Friday, the committee said, warning of flash floods and landslides.

Natural disasters in Vietnam left 136 people dead or missing, and injured 130 others in the first 10 months of this year, according to the General Statistics Office.
