CPC expels ex vice-mayor of Chongqing for graft

Xiong Xue, a former vice-mayor of Chongqing, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for serious violations of discipline and laws, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision said in a statement on Monday.

It said Xiong was suspected of serious duty-related and bribery crimes. His case and the assets involved will be transferred to procuratorial agencies for review and prosecution.

The statement said Xiong failed to align with the CPC Central Committee's principles on major issues and was involved in the formation of cliques. He exhibited a distorted view of performance, engaged in formalism and fabrication, resisted inspections from Party organizations and participated in superstitious activities.

He was also found to have accepted banquets and services that might have affected the impartial execution of his official duties. He provided incomplete and misleading information during cautionary talks and inquiries from Party organizations, and failed to report personal matters as required.

Xiong obtained substantial returns through private loans, failed to fulfill his duties correctly, colluded closely with unscrupulous business people, and used public power to pursue personal gain, the statement said.

He also engaged in the trading of power and money, and leveraged his position to benefit others in engineering contracts, land approvals and other aspects, receiving property from the beneficiaries in return.

Xiong, 61, a native of Chongqing, began his career in 1982 and joined the Party in 1984. He worked in Chongqing for a long time, rising to the position of vice-mayor in 2019.
