Middle route of South-to-North water project benefits many

The middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project has supplied more than 20 billion cubic meters of water to Henan province, People's Daily reported on Thursday.
The route is 1,432 kilometers long, of which the Henan section is 731 kilometers — the longest canal section with the largest water distribution, the report said.
The Henan section supplied 2.25 billion cubic meters of water to Henan from 2022 to 2023, fulfilling 90 percent of the annual water supply plan.
Water quality has always been maintained at Level II and above surface water standards.
Over the past eight years, the first phase of the middle route has transferred more than 58.4 billion cubic meters of water to Beijing, Tianjin and cities in Hebei and Henan provinces.
More than 200 counties and cities along the way have benefited from water delivered by the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and more than 85 million people have benefited directly from the project, the report said.
