Now in Russian: Fujian helped lift Ningxia
The Russian edition of Poetry in the Distance: Stories About the Minning Experience was released at a ceremony in Moscow on Saturday.
The book focuses on how Fujian province (abbreviated Min), a relatively wealthy coastal province in eastern China, assisted the Ningxia Hui autonomous region (Ning) in poverty alleviation for 25 years.
The book, based on real-life stories, depicts the transformation of Xihaigu — a region once classified as uninhabitable due to lack of water — into a prosperous and green area.
Experts at the ceremony said the publication of the Russian edition is one of the major outcomes of Sino-Russia cultural exchanges. Telling Russian readers stories of modern China can strengthen friendship and understanding, they said.
The Chinese edition of the book was written by He Jianming and published in 2021.
China has lifted more than 800 million people out of absolute poverty since its reform and opening-up policy was adopted in 1978.
