Tibetan culture well protected, seminar participants say

The participants of the 7th Beijing International Seminar on Tibetan Studies stated on Monday that the Tibetan culture has been well protected and inherited over the past decades.

The three-day seminar opened in Beijing on Monday, with the theme "Prosperity of Tibetan Studies and the Opening of Tibet". It is jointly organized by the China Association for Preservation and Development of Tibetan Culture, the China Tibetology Research Center and the Xizang Academy of Social Sciences.

The seminar covers 20 topics, including politics, economic and rural development, education, Tibetan Buddhism and literature.

As an important part of Chinese culture, Tibetan culture has been well protected and inherited over the past 70 years of the peaceful liberation of the Tibet autonomous region. Furthermore, the value and unique charm of Tibetan culture is increasingly being recognized and appreciated by people from all over the world.

Tibetan studies should always aim at promoting the prosperity of Tibet and improving the living standards of the people of all ethnic groups in the region, and promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, they said.

Wan Guo, a professor at Southwest Minzu University, said that the construction of disciplines and academic echelons of Tibetan studies should be standardized to realize the academic value as well as the practical and historical significance of Tibetan studies.

Universities that are cultivating talent should play a more important role in the developing disciplines related to Tibet, making them the main platform for Tibetan studies, he said.
