Dongdian flood control reservoir activated to manage rain damage in Tianjin
The Dongdian flood control reservoir was activated on Tuesday morning as Tianjin triggered the highest-level emergency response to flood control at 1 am on Tuesday .
According to Tianjin water authority, the Dongdian flood control reservoir was activated at 2 am on Tuesday due to the increased water flow and significant rises in water levels in the upper channels of Daqing River.
With a total area of 379 square kilometers, the flood control reservoir borders Tianjin and Hebei province. Flooding from Daqing River is expected to first enter the Hebei portion of the reservoir, and then slow down as it reaches the Tianjin portion around August 9.
Since Monday,Tianjin has implemented personnel transfer, emergency clearance, and river bank defense in the flood reservoir to ensure that residents evacuate before the flood reaches them.
