Tens of thousands of people painted each others' faces with pot soot to express good wishes during the Painted-Face Festival on Tuesday at Puzhehei in Qiubei county, Yunnan Province.

The Painted-Face Festival is the unique traditional festival of the Yi ethnic people in Qiubei county, and dates back more than 1,000 years.

The festival earns its name from the way people use pot soot to blacken their faces and exorcize evil spirits.
