CAC releases generative AI measures
Temporary measures for managing generative artificial intelligent were made public on Thursday, with the aim of regulating use of the new technology and promoting the healthy development of the sector.
The measures, which were issued by seven authorities, including the Cyberspace Administration of China, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Security, are also designed to protect national security and the public interest and to protect people's rights.
Recently, the rapid growth of generative AI has created new opportunities for economic and social growth, but has also triggered public concern over false content, infringement of personal information and data security. Consequently, coordinating its technological development has attracted attention from all sectors of society, according to a statement released by the CAC.
The 24 measures, which will take effect from Aug 15, are not only important to promoting the healthy development of generative AI, but also a practical means of limiting its risks, the statement said, adding that development is as important as safety, and so regulation was necessary.
While it encourages innovation, the authority also called for more sectors of society, including companies and netizens, to participate in the governance of generative AI so that it better benefits people.
