Sichuan student punished for false accusations

Sichuan University announced it would take disciplinary action on Wednesday against a female graduate student who claimed a man on social media was "creepshotting" her on a subway train.
The student surnamed Zhang apologized earlier this month after claiming she had been "creepshot" by a man on a subway train, even though in a video she posted on social media the man proved his innocence by showing his photo album to her.
The incident sparked anger among netizens.
The university said in a statement that the video and her remarks had a bad influence. The school also said it had contacted the police and communicated with the student to verify the situation.
After an investigation, it was determined Zhang had violated the university's code of conduct and related regulations.
However, considering Zhang apologized publicly and reached a settlement with the man through mediation, the university said it decided to place her on probation and observation as punishment.
The university conducted a verification process of Zhang's acceptance into the graduate program and found no violations of national or university regulations.
Sichuan University expressed its gratitude to those concerned and said efforts would be made to promote a positive campus culture while enhancing student education and management.
