Man in custody after allegedly kidnapping student, injuring another
A man suspected of kidnapping a student, taking the student hostage and injuring another at a school on Monday morning was taken into custody at the scene, according to Beijing police.
The public security department in the capital's Haidian district said on its Sina Weibo account that they received a call at around 7 am, reporting that a man had kidnapped a student after driving onto a middle school campus. During the process, another student was injured by the vehicle.
The police quickly arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody. He was identified as a 26-year-old man surnamed Yuan who worked for the school, the police said.
The kidnapped student was rescued, while the one who was hurt was sent to a hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries, it added.
No further details about the case have been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
