District of Beijing to create sci-fi city

To boost the development of the science fiction industry, the 2023 China Science Fiction Convention will be held in Beijing's Shijingshan District from May 29 to June 4.
This year is the first time for the CSFC to be included in the Zhongguancun Forum. It will be a national parallel session.
Shi Lei, director of the Shijingshan district's Science and Technology Commission, said in 2020 that the China Association for Science and Technology and Beijing Municipality signed a strategic cooperation agreement to establish the first science fiction industrial cluster zone in China.
"Since then, the district has been attracting all kinds of subjects to complete the platform and industrial incubation," Shi said.
As of May, nearly 100 enterprises related to sci-fi had gathered in Shijingshan district to form a science fiction industrial chain and ecological system that integrates "content creation, intellectual property transformation, film and television venture capital, film and television shooting, technology and experience."
Meanwhile, the district has actively explored the construction and application of science fiction scenes. As the main part of the industry cluster, Shougang Industrial Park has been regenerated by 5G+XR technology.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the park and experience sci-fi products, including a virtual reality museum, science show, immersive theater, virtual reality esports, an Olympic projects experience center and an interactive restaurant and bar.
"In the future, we will strengthen the construction of the sci-fi industry complex, improve the whole industrial service chain, support enterprises in joint technology application research and promote the research and implementation of science fiction-related technologies," Shi added.
