Four detained after man drowns in Jiangxi
Four people in Shangrao city, Jiangxi province, were detained after a man they allegedly shot with an air gun drowned, local police said on Tuesday.
Police in the Xinzhou district of Shangrao issued a statement, saying that a suspect surnamed Xie carried an air gun and went out to hunt rabbits with three other villagers at 10 pm on Friday.
While hunting, the four saw something moving in the grass near a drainage area filled with water. Xie fired a shot, which struck the victim's head. The victim then fell in the water, the statement said.
Police began investigating after receiving a report around midnight on Friday that a local villager surnamed Wang was found dead in the drainage area. An autopsy showed that Wang's death was consistent with the characteristics of drowning.
The police are working on the case, the statement said.
In addition, the district has carried out a special operation to target gun and explosive-related activities.
